With the New Year just around the corner and intentions about to be set, we recently checked in with a few of our LeAD Labs coaches to solicit some advice for leaders looking to develop their Passion & Purpose.
Reconnect With Your “Why”?
“Take the time to write down or document your top 3-5 values and connect those values to specific tasks or behaviors you do as a leader. When you are having a tough day, or don’t quite feel like a leader, bring out those values and reflect on why you lead. Reconnecting with your “why” will help you push through those tough days and can re-energize your passion to lead!”

Write It Down
“Once you have a clearer understanding of your leadership passion and purpose, align your personal and professional goals. Write down the actionable steps you will take to integrate these insights into your daily, monthly, or yearly leadership practices.”

Check-In With Yourself
“Add an appointment on your calendar to have a check-in with yourself. This could be a weekly, monthly, or quarterly meeting. This meeting could be the length of a 15-minute meeting or a 30-minute meeting, or you can make it longer.
When you are in this meeting, take some time to reflect on how you have felt this past week, month, or quarter. Now take a moment and ask yourself these 3 questions and write these down:
Are there any moments within your interactions with others that stand out to you?
Is there anything in the work you have been completing that stands out to you? Are there any things you would like to do differently?
Are there any things that you do in your work that bring joy to you and that you know support the people that depend on your work, during that time?
Now you may do the following: Continuing your writing, you may ask yourself the following 3 questions and write them down:
How do you view your role as a leader?
What are you hoping to achieve in the next week, month, or quarter and why is this important to you?
How do you want your teams to feel while they are completing important tasks?
Finally, you are ready to ask yourself and answer the following 3 questions:
How do you want your team to see you as a positive leader (e.g., authentic, productive, supportive, etc)?
What can you do as a leader to promote your teams' autonomy and success?
What steps can I take to demonstrate these positive traits?
Hopefully, by the time this internal check-in is completed, it will provide you with a new and energized framework to approach your work.

Dig Deep
“Contagious Passion: Sharing your passion and purpose as a leader can help you live a life more aligned with your passion and purpose. Additionally, sharing your passion and purpose may help inspire others around you to reflect more deeply and subsequently live a more authentic life.
Thinking about yourself:
What are your passions and purpose?
How can you share those passions and purposes with others?
What are three things you can do to live more aligned with your passion and purpose?
Thinking about others:
What are the passions and purposes of people around you?
What are three things you can do to create a positive environment where they can live more aligned with their passion and purpose?
Dark side of passion: Passion is powerful, providing the energy and focus to accomplish a goal. However, the dark side of passion can also lead us to burnout or act counter to our values. Understanding the context and symptoms of being overly passionate can help create better strategies to take care of ourselves and others.
Think of a time when you may be overly passionate:
What was the scenario?
What did you do?
What was the impact?
What would you do differently if you were to encounter this situation in the future?
